Sometimes it's just plain old fun to play the tourist in your own town. We try to do this every weekend, as Rachel is chuckling next to me. We took the bus to downtown Chamonix where we were able to catch the Mer de Glace Train.
The train climbs high into the mountains and deposits you above the Mer de Glace, a valley glacier located on the northern slopes of the Mont Blanc massif. As you hike down to the ice caves and at the edge of the glacier you can see posted along the way down the different levels the glacier was located and in what year....Very scary how fast this glacier is receding....
