I signed a promisary note to the Compagnie du Blanc and dropped it off at HR.
We have 10 days before the medical refresher starts, so I ask my bosses if we could skip town to go and see some of the French countryside. Since so many people in Chamonix speak English I should immerse.
Just like in Aspen there are two ways in and out of Cham: upvalley and downvalley. Either way is nice. We had waited for the arrival of the first snowfall and it was the post-frontal-bluebird-after–the-storm-day. We took the road from le Fayet over Megève into Ugine and onwards to Albertville; Home of the winter Olympics in 1992.
We had driven the road in the reverse direction a year and a half ago from Annecy, when we visited Chamonix for the first time ever. It was a lovely opportunity to take M'aider for a test drive.
After hitting Albertville for some much needed groceries, we are headed south in the direction of Grenoble, through the valley of the Isère, along the same named river on the D523, rather than paying toll on the A41.
Grenoble (/ɡrəˈnoʊbəl/;French pronunciation: [ɡʁə.nɔbl]; Arpitan: Grenoblo) is a city in southeastern France, at the foot of the French Alps where the river Drac joins the Isère. Located in the Rhône-Alpes region, Grenoble is the capital of the department of Isère. The proximity of the mountains, as well as its size, has led to the city being known as the "Capital of the Alps".
